Vikram Solar powers Calicut International Airport with Solar Energy

Calicut, December 15, 2015: 750 kWp grid connected rooftop plant expected to generate 1175 MWh per year.
Vikram Solar, a globally recognized leading solar energy solutions provider, specializing in high efficiency PV module manufacturing and comprehensive EPC solutions, successfully commissioned a rooftop solar plant with 750 kWp capacity at Calicut International Airport. The project was implemented under the MNRE scheme setting of grid connected solar rooftop project under Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM). This is Vikram Solar’s 2nd such rooftop installation at an International Airport in India, after the 100 kWp installation at Cochin International Airport in Kerala itself.
Vikram Solar was responsible for the design, engineering, procurement, supply, construction, erection and commissioning. The 750 kWp project is expected to reduce 823 MT of CO2 emissions per year. By promoting new, clean and cost-effective power generation and implementing better technologies, the company is committed to protect and encourage better use of natural resources of the country.

Mr. Gyanesh Chaudhary, CEO and Managing Director, Vikram Solar, said “With ever-increasing energy requirements, our country currently is a huge importer of conventional energy. A revolutionary shift to alternative sources is therefore the need of the hour. With an aim to make solar energy more accessible, viable and efficient, Vikram Solar deploys world- class technology to design, install and commission benchmark solar projects worldwide. Our power plants are a testimony of our commitment towards the environment.”
Kuldeep Jain, COO , Vikram Solar further added, “Our highly skilled and dedicated EPC team ensured the completion of the rooftop solar plant from concept to commissioning stage. We have ensured quality at every step of execution resulting in substantial tax benefits and end-user savings, while considerably lowering the carbon footprint. The plant has been set up using best-in-class technology which includes advanced monitoring system, latest cost effective earthing & lightning protection system, and other safety features making it safe and effective for an International airport.”
The plant is built using Vikram Solar’s high-efficiency ELDORA Prime Silver series 260 Wp 60 cells polycrystalline PV modules (a total of 2886 nos. of modules were used) spread over an area of approximately 7120 Sq. mtrs. Vikram Solar has also been entrusted with overseeing the operations and maintenance (O&M) services for the plant under a 2 year contract. This system is also capable of synchronising with the Diesel Generator in case of Grid Failure, which is a very new technology in this part of the World.
