The Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) has clarified that the solar PV projects are not required to obtain environmental clearance. The ministry has issued this notification after it received a query regarding applicability of ElA Notification 2006 in respect to the solar PV projects. The ministry has noted that the EIA Notification 2006 does not enlists solar PV as the project activities that are required to obtain an environmental clearance. |

Vikram Solar, one of the largest manufacturers of solar energy equipment in India, has entered into a Joint Venture with PROENER, Spain’s premier renewable energy corporation, to form a new company, Vikram-PROENER Projects. Combining the product development skills and manufacturing facilities of Vikram Solar with quality service for System Integration and Turnkey Power Solutions, the new company will focus on providing both off-grid and grid-tied solutions. Vikram-PROENER has already kicked off their first project – the construction and installation of a solar power plant of 2 MW capacity at Raipur in Chattisgarh. The budget of the project is around USD 5.5 million (25 Crore INR) and work is expected to commence from July 2011. |
